Ammon News - NEW YORK (Petra) Jordan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, HRH Prince Zeid bin Raad stressed that the UN Security Council avowed Jordan’s efforts on dealing with Syrian refugees in the kingdom.
Prince Zeid told reporters after a closed meeting of the UN Security Council Tuesday night to discuss the influx of Syrian refugees to Jordan that the council’s members have given positive indications to support the idea of visiting the country, but the decision has not been taken yet.
The session was scheduled after a request of the Jordanian government to consider the dangerous humanitarian condition Jordan is going through due to the influx of Syrian refugees.
The permanent representative said that Jordan’s security and stability are being threatened by the rising number of refugees it is hosting, adding that if the question of the refugees is not answered, and financial support is not provided, it will not be able to handle this burden.
He stressed that Jordan will keep its borders open to displaced Syrians as refugee, urging the international community to increase humanitarian support for displaced Syrians due to the economic challenges facing the country.
