Military source says deployment of US soldiers in Jordan has nothing to do with Syrian situation

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra)--A Jordanian military source on Thursday stressed that the deployment of 200 American soldiers in Jordan had nothing to do with the situation in Syria, as media reports and statements had speculated.

The source said these troops were the first batch of contingents that would take part in the Operation Eager Lion military exercise held in Jordan annually. This year, the exercise will be held during the coming weeks.

Until now, more than 15 countries had taken part in the exercise, the source added.

Further, the source pointed out that the Jordanian armed forces has the capabilities to protect the country’s borders, and preserve the security and stability of the country in the face of any threat.

These joint exercises with different national armies were part of the annual training plan implemented by the Jordanian armed forces and had nothing to do with the situation in Syria, he reiterated.
