Polls close, as election voter turnout surpass 1.28 Million, 56% (UPDATED)

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Over 1.288 million registered voters casted their ballots since Wednesday morning in various voting stations throughout the kingdom electing a total of 150 members to represent them in the Lower House of Parliament.

All polling stations throughout the kingdom closed their doors at 8:00 PM. Electoral committees at various polling station began tallying up the votes to come up with the final election results.

The announcement of winners in the race for seats in the 17th Lower House of Parliament will be announced later tonight.

The preliminary total number of voters who got out to vote until 8:00 PM reached over 56.69 percent (1,288,043) out of a total of 2.27 million registered to vote, Ammon News reporter Mohammad Habahbeh reported from the media center set up by the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) at the Royal Cultural Center in Amman.

The southern and Central Badia regions registered the highest percentages of voter turnout, reaching 73.25 and 74.76 percent respectively, with the highest percentage registered in the northern Badia region with a turnout of 75.27 percent.

43.18 percent of registered voters turned out to vote in the capital Amman, with the lowest voter turnout compared to other governorates.

Other governorates registered higher voter turnout, including:

Karak 71.06 %
Ma'an at 67.66 %
Madaba 69.73 %
Tafileh 69.76 %
Ajloun 70.69 %
Jerash 71.49 %
Balqaa 61.54 %
Irbid 59.11 %
Aqaba 61.95 %
Zarqa 47.69 %.
