Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) Heavy and continued snowfall has closed several roads and cut off electricity in various regions of Jordan as the Kingdom was hit all over the week with consecutive cold fronts and depressions, flooding some tunnels and streets in the capital and forcing power outage in some regions.
The meteorology department forecasts the weather to slightly improve as of Thursday evening and snowfall and rain to taper off. However, mercury levels will be around 0 Celsius dipping even below in some regions especially in the night in the comings days.
Karak, Tafileh and Shobak in the southern region and Ajloun and Jerash in the north were hit hard by the storm with reported snow accumulation in the Tafileh town of Rashadieh around 1 meter and above 50cm in many of Karak areas.
Many districts and towns of Karak saw an all-night power outage as strong winds took down a high-voltage pole in the Mushirfah town near Mu'tah University.
All states bodies have been put on alert and army vehicles and personnel are helping in re-opening blocked roads and rescuing citizens stranded in the snow.
Special civil defense vehicles are transporting ill people to hospitals. Upon directives by His Majesty King Abdullah II, the army set up Kingdom-wide operation rooms and urged citizens to call whenever they are in need.
