Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) The Independent Elections Commission IEC on Wednesday announced a three-day period for registration of candidates running for seats in Jordan's 17th parliament, starting on December 22, one month ahead of elections.
Outlining detailed candidacy regulations, IEC spokesman Hussein Bani Hani said applicants to a local constituency should submit their candidacy directly to the head of the constituency, but applications to the general (national) constituency should be presented to the IEC.
He said a candidate cannot stand for both the local and general constituencies or register in more than one general list, adding that the IEC's Board of Commissioners will form a special committee tasked with scrutinizing applications and referring them to the board which would either accept or reject them.
