Armed men Block Airport Highway in protest of Municipalities Merger

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A number of masked men with rifles and guns blocked the Queen Alia International Airport highway protesting the municipalities merger.
According to eyewitnesses a black car without license plates blocked the street and a group of masked armed men around the vehicle shot bullets in the air and prevented vehicles from crossing the road.
The Armed men terrified the civilians, and forced drivers to take the alternate and safer roads,, an eyewitness told Ammon News.
Meanwhile, police and security forces were absent from the area during the incident.
In a related incident, citizens in Jeeza district (South of Amman) took to the streets calling for the separation of their villages from the existing central municipality of Um Al Rassass.
Article 5 of the new Municipalities Law allows the establishment of new municipalities for communities where the population exceeds 5,000, provided that at least half of the community members agree to the disengagement with key municipalities.
The protesters blocked the main roads to Aqaba and Azraq demanding forming their own municipalities.
