Ammon News - The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on Tuesday issued a set of guidelines and warnings to citizens as Jordan is affected by a weather depression, urging the public to follow official instructions and stay updated on weather developments.
The municipality stressed the importance of securing objects that could be blown away by strong winds, such as metal sheets and billboards, to avoid accidents. It also highlighted the need to inspect submersible pumps in basements, parking areas, shops, and warehouses to prevent water accumulation.
Shop owners and traders were advised to take necessary precautions to protect their goods, as well as to secure construction materials and avoid leaving them exposed, to prevent them from being swept away and blocking rainwater drainage systems.
The municipality also called on residents to avoid low-lying areas and flood channels, refrain from random waste disposal to prevent clogging drainage networks, and stay away from electrical sources in streets and parks.
It warned against connecting rooftop drains to sewage systems, as this may cause flooding on roads. Citizens were urged to contact emergency numbers (102 or 117180) for assistance when needed.
Jordan is affected on Tuesday, by a relatively cold and moist air mass, bringing partly cloudy and relatively cool weather across most regions, while conditions remain warmer in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
Rain showers are expected by midday in the northern and central regions, occasionally heavy and accompanied by thunder, later extending to parts of the eastern and southwestern areas. Winds will be northwesterly and moderate, becoming active by noon and raising dust in desert areas. Rain chances are expected to weaken in the evening.
The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) warned of reduced horizontal visibility in the early morning due to fog over high northern and central mountainous areas and parts of the plains, as well as occasional low visibility due to dust in desert regions. It also warned of slippery roads in areas experiencing rainfall.
