Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Osama al-Sharif - Sources close to Sheikh Yasser al-Omari, one of the leaders of the Islamist movement in Jordan, said that al-Omari is considering running for candidacy in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The sources said that al-Omari is expected to run independently in Zarqa's first district if he succeeds in securing financing for the his political campaign, valued at nearly JD 20,000.
Al-Omari did not deny nor confirm the reports, noting that he opposed the Muslim Brotherhood's decision to boycott the parliamentary elections.
He said that the Islamist movement may be able to get out of the predicament it is in by allowing its members to run for the elections as independent candidates.
Al-Omari said that the movement does not cover the campaign expenses for its candidates, who usually have to pay from their own private funds.
Last week, a female member of the Islamic Action Front (IAF), Siham Bani Mustafa, announced her intention to run for elections in Jerash governorate, becoming the first follower of the Islamist movement to announce running independently despite the movement's decision to boycott the elections.
