Masri discusses parliament, democracy, regional development with French officials

Ammon News - AMMAN Senate President Taher Masri on Friday separately discussed with Chairman of the French Senate Gerard Larshe and President of the French National Assembly Bernard Accoyer ways to boost bilateral ties, especially in parliamentary fields.

Masri briefed Larshe and Accoyer on Jordan's modernization and reform process aimed to achieve sustainable development, adding the Kingdom is pressing ahead to promote democratic life, respect human rights, and foster moderation.

"Jordan has become a lucrative environment to foreign investments due to its effective regulations aimed to attract investment as well as its advanced infrastructure, its distinguished human potential, security and stability," Masri underlined.

Masri highly valued Paris's role aimed to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East , saying it is crucial France exercise pressure on Israel to comply with international legitimacy resolutions to end its occupation of the Palestinian territories and to relaunch serious negotiations to find a just solution to the Palestinian issue.

"This effort is intended to fully restore Palestinian rights in a bid to establish a sovereign Palestinian state on national Palestinian soil with Jerusalem as its capital," he added.

Masri warned that Israel's continued belligerent policies against the Palestinian people, its rejection of negotiations and noncompliance with UN resolutions to achieve peace will have a negative impact not only on Israel, but also on the region and the entire world.

Larshe and Accoyer , on their part, voiced Paris's keenness to boost ties with Jordan and lauded the country's economic and democratic achievements The French officials also said France will exert more efforts at int'l fora to push the relaunch of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations to reach a solution, that fully restores Palestinian rights.

On Jordan, Larshe lauded its key role in the Middle East and its reform efforts, adding the Kingdom is a model for democracy in the region and condemned Israel's commando raid on the Gaza-bound flotilla vessels. (Petra)
