King, Kuwait Emir discuss ties, Mideast

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday held talks with Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah on ways to bolster bilateral ties as well as issues of common interest.

The two leaders expressed comfort over the advanced level of the Jordanian-Kuwaiti relations in a host of areas, stressing the need to further promote them at various levels and open wider scopes of economic cooperation to serve interests of both countries.

King Abdullah and Sheikh Sabah expressed keenness to maintain constant coordination and consultation toward various issues to achieve more robust Arab solidarity to address pan-Arab issues and challenges.

They reviewed efforts underway to bring about comprehensive peace in the Middle East and resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution and relevant terms of reference, namely the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

The two leaders stressed that any settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict should guarantee a sovereign, viable and independent Palestinian state on national Palestinian soil.

Talks, which followed a one-on-one meeting, also dealt with the current developments in the region and ways to address them to serve Arab issues and causes.

King Abdullah presented Sheikh Sabah with Hussein Bin Ali Necklace and the Kuwait emit presented the King with Necklace of Mubarak the Great.

The King hosted a lunch banquet in honor of Sheikh Sabah and the accompanying delegation attended by senior officials form both countries.

The two leaders oversaw the signing of a number of bilateral agreements including, a cultural cooperation deal for the years 2010-2012, a memorandum of understanding on nuclear cooperation and a deal on roads and bridges construction.

A Royal Court source said that today's summit reflected the deep-rooted relations between the two countries, noting that the meeting would give ties further momentum to serve interests of Jordanian and Kuwait peoples.

The source added that Jordan was keen to continue coordination with the gulf Arab state to crystallize joint stances toward various issues of mutual concern.

Royal family members and senior official from both sides attended the meeting.
