Ammon News - Turkey has launched the first of its new New Type Landing Ships (YLCT) at Anadolu Shipyard. The project, initiated in early 2024, is led by the Presidency of Defense Industries and aims to deliver eight advanced amphibious vessels to the Turkish Navy.
The contract was signed in April 2024, and just 10 months later, the first ship, YLCT C-159, was launched.
Turkey has increased the domestic production rate of its naval platforms from 20% to 80% over the past 23 years.
The country is now among a small group of nations capable of designing, building, and maintaining a full range of military ships, including amphibious assault ships, support vessels, combat ships, and submarines.
The YLCT class ships will enhance Turkey’s ability to transport tanks, troops, and supplies during operations, boosting both military logistics and humanitarian missions. Turkey Today
