Ammon News - Arab and international meetings will be held in Aqaba on Saturday to discuss developments in Syria.

At the invitation of Jordan, the foreign ministers of the Arab League's Ministerial Arab Contact Committee on Syria, consisting of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt and the Secretary-General of the Arab League, will hold a meeting in Aqaba, which will also be attended by the foreign ministers of the UAE, Bahrain, the current chair of the Arab Summit, and Qatar.

Arab foreign ministers attending the committee meetings will hold meetings with the foreign ministers of Turkey, the United States and the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Policy, as well as the UN envoy on Syria.

The meetings will discuss ways to support an inclusive Syrian-led political process to achieve a transition in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people, ensures the rebuilding of Syrian state institutions, and preserves Syria's unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, security, stability, and the rights of all its citizens.

The Arab League has expressed its aspiration to reach a unified Arab position in support of Syria at this difficult stage, according to Jamal Rushdi, official spokesman of the League's Secretary-General.

Rushdi told Al-Mamlaka TV that the Arab League is looking forward to the meeting of the Arab ministerial contact committee to be held in Jordan in order to come up with a unified Arab position that “accompanies the Syrians” in this delicate circumstance.
