Number of visitors to Petra declines by 64% due to regional events

Ammon News - Chairman of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), Fares Braizat, said that the number of visitors to Petra decreased in 2024 by 64% compared to last year due to the situation in the region.

Braizat told Al-Mamlaka Tv on Thursday that the number of foreign visitors to Petra decreased in 2024 by 75% compared to 2023 due to the situation in the region.

If a ceasefire is reached in the Gaza Strip, there will be a huge influx of visitors next year, he added.

Braizat also reviewed details of a $15 million grant to implement 18 projects in Petra.

The total value of the grant is $15 million, distributed over 5 main outputs, from which 18 projects branch out, including one project for the PDTRA with a contribution of 5% of the total value of the grant, amounting to $750,000, according to what Breizat indicated.
