Azerbaijani Embassy: Baku's COP29 Hosting Marks Milestone for Greener Future

Ammon News - The Azerbaijani Embassy in Amman announced Tuesday that Baku, Azerbaijan's capital, will host the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) from November 11 to 22, underscoring Azerbaijan’s commitment to sustainable development and renewable energy in the Caucasus.
In a statement, the embassy noted that this milestone event comes as the global community intensifies its efforts to combat climate change. Hosting COP29 enhances Azerbaijan’s international standing and demonstrates its ambition to contribute actively to global environmental initiatives.
Set to be the largest international gathering of 2024, COP29 will bring together delegates from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) parties, as well as thousands of experts, journalists, climate activists, business leaders, and representatives from NGOs.
The event will feature discussions with European Union and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) officials, fostering cooperative global responses to climate challenges.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his hope that COP29 would strengthen regional and international cooperation, while facilitating practical, actionable solutions to the climate crisis. President Aliyev highlighted the conference as an opportunity for Azerbaijan to demonstrate its leadership in the global climate dialogue.
The conference will showcase innovative clean energy solutions, with Azerbaijan aiming to model sustainable development for other nations striving to balance economic growth with environmental preservation.
The statement also emphasized Azerbaijan's dedication to peace and stability in the South Caucasus region, noting the country's efforts to foster conditions for lasting peace and security as part of its broader mission to achieve cooperative economic growth and environmental progress.
