General Assembly urges creation of nuclear-free zone in Middle East

Ammon News - 175 countries supported the resolution passed by the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly for creating a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East.

The resolution called on all relevant parties to carefully assess and promptly take action to adhere to the resolution for a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East as per General Assembly resolutions.

In order to support this objective, the resolution urged the countries involved to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The First Committee, focused on disarmament and international security, passed a resolution on the threat of nuclear proliferation in the Middle East, backed by 154 nations.

The resolution mentioned the Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons' conclusions on the Middle East during the Treaty's 2010 review.

In this situation, the Assembly urged for the quick and complete fulfillment of the responsibilities included in it.
