Ammon News - The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), Ziad Saaida, confirmed that the commission continues to exercise its supervisory role over the electrical system through the monitoring and emergency center operating with high readiness around the clock, and the commission's cadres are ready to deal with the heat wave prevailing in the Kingdom.
Saaida inspected the operational preparations and plans related to sustaining the service supply, and reviewed the electricity companies’ preparations to confront the repercussions of the heat wave, pointing out that the measures taken before the onset of the weather conditions worked to enhance and raise the sector’s readiness.
He called on citizens to use cooling methods that consume less energy, set the air conditioner thermostat to 24 degrees if used, clean the air filter periodically, close the curtains on the windows to prevent sunlight from entering while the cooling devices are running, and make sure to turn off the air conditioners when leaving the room or the office.
The Kingdom is witnessing a heat wave that raised the maximum load of the electrical system to 3,660 megawatts, recorded at 8:27 pm on Monday, by more than 18% compared to the rate recorded at this time last year, as temperatures in some areas exceeded the 47 degree Celsius barrier, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).
