Ammon News - Southern Shuna His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on Sunday attended an Armed Forces celebration to mark the 42nd anniversary of Al Karama Battle.
Upon arrival at the Martyr's Memorial in the Southern Shuna district in the Jordan Valley, the King laid a wreath at the monument and recited verses form the holy Quran as an army band played Beating Retreat.
His Majesty reviewed the names of martyrs inscripted on the memorial and formations and units that fought in the 1968 battle.
He also watched a documentary about the heroism and sacrifices of Jordanian forces.
King Abdullah also toured an Armed Forces exhibition that contained photographs that documented the historic victory of the Jordanian Army that repelled Israeli forces which advanced into Jordanian territory.
At the end of the celebration, King Abdullah met families of the martyrs and veterans who fought in the battle.
The king was welcomed at the site by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein, the Prime Minister, the Senate President, the President of the Judicial Council, the Royal Court Chief, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Directors of General Intelligence, Public Security, and Civil Defense as well as other senior military and civic officials.
