Ammon News - Luis Suarez finally opened his scoring account for Inter Miami as the striker found the net twice within the opening 11 minutes of the Herons' rivalry clash against Orlando City SC.

The Uruguayan was Inter Miami's headline signing of the offseason as David Beckham and co continued to add to their ranks, which already boasted Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

However, the former Liverpool star had struggled in his start to life in MLS, failing to score throughout Inter Miami's preseason friendlies and opening two games of the 2024 season.

But Suarez finally broke the dam, bagging his first goal in MLS just four minutes into the Florida rivalry game.

Suarez went down after a challenge and seemed to favor his right leg early in the game but he bounced back as Julian Gressel found him in the box.

He produced a stunning first-time finish off the low cross and volleyed it into the top right corner to hand Miami the dream start.

Seven minutes after breaking the ice, Gressel and Suarez once again teamed up with El Pistolero putting the finishing touches on a nifty give-and-go with the US international to double the lead.

Gressel flicked in a superb pass from the left-hand side, which Suarez rolled past Lions goalkeeper Pedro Gallese.

Suarez could have easily turned his brace into a hat-trick in the 29th minute but instead opted to feed across the face of goal to Robert Taylor who extended Miami's lead to a comfortable 3-0 in the Florida derby.

Suarez had suffered an injury scare in the Herons' season opener against Real Salt Lake.

He picked up an assist in the 2-0 victory but the ageing striker was seen limping towards the end of the game and sparked fears.

But the 37-year-old has been named in Tata Martino's starting XI for the past two games, including Saturday.
