Ammon News - Minister of Labor, Nadia Rawabdeh, said on Tuesday that 33,000 employment contracts had been concluded within the National Employment Programme, noting that the program would be rehabilitated and extended until 2025.

In a press conference, Rawabdeh added that the labor law has been amended with the aim of increasing regulation of the labor market and providing protection for workers.

Rawabdeh also indicated that the most important features of the amendments contained in the Labor Law were regulating the affairs of non-Jordanian workers, such that instructions were put in place to specify the professions in which non-Jordanians were not allowed to work, in addition to issuing regulations specifying the amount of fees and fines and the types of work permits issued by the Ministry of Labor.

She pointed out that the definition of sexual harassment and the worker’s right to leave work if he is exposed to violence or harassment without notifying the employer have been included.

Rawabdeh indicated that there was an increase in the penalty for violating the provisions of the Labor Law by raising the minimum penalty from JD50-100, and its ceiling was JD100 and became JD500.

The minister noted that the Ministry of Labor issued 3 regulations, namely: the system of occupational safety and health and risk prevention, the system of preventive and curative medical care for workers in institutions, and the system of forming occupational safety and health committees and appointing supervisors in institutions.
