Jordan participates in Arab-European meeting on developments in Gaza war

Ammon News - Arab foreign ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi, participate on Monday in talks on the war on the Gaza Strip on the sidelines of the European Union Ministerial Council for Foreign Affairs meeting in Brussels.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, had invited the foreign ministers of Arab countries, the Israeli Foreign Minister and the President of the Arab League to Brussels, to participate in the meeting that will discuss developments in the wider region, the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and the need to prevent the war from spreading to the region and the way forward.

The European Union foreign ministers, chaired by Borrell, intend to hold successive meetings in Brussels on Monday with their counterparts including Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, the foreign ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Palestine and Israel, and the Secretary General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

The European Union said in a statement, that the ministers will discuss the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the need for unhindered humanitarian assistance, a renewed call for the release of hostages and the full implementation of UN resolutions, the situation in the West Bank and risks of regional escalation, including in the Red Sea.

Ministers will also reflect on the “day after”, a possible peace plan and peace conference and the need for concrete steps to revive the two-state solution, including through continued support for the Palestinian Authority, according to the statement.
