Ammon News - Minister of Government Communications Muhannad Mubaideen said on Saturday that there is an urgent need today to deal with the drug issue that threatens national security.

The drug smuggling groups are targeting Jordan's security and the war with them is long and the confrontation is greater, Mubaideen added in a statement to Al-Mamlaka TV.

Mubaideen stressed the necessity of building a regional strategy to confront drugs, in addition to society defending itself from this scourge.

Since 2:am Saturday morning, armed clashes have been taking place between Jordanian border guard forces and large armed groups of smugglers on the northern border, according to a responsible military source in the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army.
