Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, said that Jordan decided to refrain from holding the four-way summit that brings together His Majesty King Abdullah, US President Joe Biden, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Amman, which was scheduled to be held on Wednesday, because it won't be able to stop the war for now.

Refraining from holding the summit also due to the ongoing Israeli massacres against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the most recent of which was the Baptist Hospital massacre, which came as a shock to everyone and cannot be tolerated," Safadi said early Wednesday in a statement.

Safadi called on the international community to put an end to the bloodshed, the continuation of which constitutes a disgrace to humanity, stressing that Jordan will continue to work with everyone; so when this summit is held, it will be able to achieve what is required of it, which is to stop the war, deliver humanitarian support to the people of Gaza, and put an end to this unacceptable humanitarian catastrophe.

He added that His Majesty the King was clear during his European tour, where he was calling for an end to this war and this catastrophe, and that the international community must deal with the war on Gaza according to humanitarian standards without discrimination based on identity or nationality.

Safadi underscored the importance of implementing international law, the Fourth Geneva Convention and its Appendix, all of which consider this war and the denial of medicine and food to the Palestinians in Gaza as a collective punishment and a war crime.

He added that US President's visit to Amman won't take place at the moment.

"Following consultations with our Palestinian and Egyptian brothers, and after a discussion with the United States, we decided not to hold this summit. We aim from this summit, if it is held, to produce one solution that has no other, which is to stop the war, respect the humanity of the Palestinians, and deliver the aid they deserve," the foreign minister explained.

Safadi referred to the firm position of His Majesty, who said that the Baptist Hospital massacre was "a heinous war crime that cannot be ignored", and that Israel must end its brutal aggression on Gaza immediately, which contravenes humanitarian and moral values and constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

He also noted His Majesty warned that this war, which has entered a dangerous phase, will plunge the region into an unspeakable disaster.
