Ammon News - The UN Resident Coordinator in Jordan Sheri Ritsema-Anderson, said that lighting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) on the ancient Citadel of Amman is a reaffirmation of the United Nations’ support for Jordan in its journey towards achieving the SDG.

The event, which was launched on the eve of the SDG Summit at the UN in the presence of world leaders, emphasizes the importance of partnership as the cornerstone of collective action, she added.

Ritsema-Anderson emphasized that the summit unites countries to evaluate the progress that has been made, identify challenges, and renew a firm commitment to the sustainable development goals.

“As we reach the halfway point of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, it is essential that we take stock of our achievements and intensify our efforts to accelerate progress,” said Ritsema-Anderson.

She praised Jordan for its dedication to achieving sustainable development goals and integrating these goals into its national development plans.

"Governments, civil society, companies and international organizations must come together to address this complex web of development challenges," she stressed.

“As we recently launched the #17Goals online campaign, to encourage people to go online and post the actions they are taking to support the achievement of the SDGs, we encourage each of you to actively participate in this campaign, to share the actions you are taking to support the achievement of the SDGs,” according to Ritsema-Anderson.

On Sunday, the United Nations in Jordan lit up the Citadel of Amman with sustainable development goals, as part of an event hosted on the eve of the SDGs in New York on September 18 and 19.
