Ammon News - Athletes from 12 countries, including Jordan, are competing in the fourth edition of the men's and women's West Asia Athletics Championship, which kicked off in Qatar on Wednesday.
Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Syria are among the participating nations.
The 3-day tournament features 22 contests, including long jump, shot put, triple jump, javelin throw, 100-meter sprint, 800-meter race, 10,000 steps walk, and 3-meter steeplechase.
Mohammed Al Fadhala, president of the Qatar Athletics Federation (QAF) and the West Asian Athletics Association, wished for the championship to achieve the technical success on both a game level and an individual level for the athletes.
In a statement, he emphasized that the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium's field and track are ready to host competitions, highlighting the tournament as a special chance for athletes in the west of the continent to demonstrate exemplary performance levels that will aid them in the upcoming challenges of athletics championships at the continental and international levels.
