Ammon News - At least two men have been arrested after a 36-year-old woman was found buried alive at a cemetery in Brazil.

The victim, a mother-of-four, was beaten and dragged out of her home by the assailants March 28 and was abandoned inside a tomb at the Visconde do Rio Branco Municipal Cemetery in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais.

She survived underground for 10 hours before gravediggers noticed fresh cement and blood near the grave. Their suspicions were confirmed when they heard a woman cry for help from inside.

The Visconde do Rio Branco Civil Police held a press conference Tuesday to announce the apprehensions, which took place Saturday night in the municipalities of São Geraldo and Viçosa.

Police chief Diego Candian said the unnamed defendants, aged 20 and 22, were planning on escaping for Rio de Janeiro after their gruesome crime.

The woman told police she was assaulted after she 'misplaced' drugs and weapons she was stashing for them at her home.

Both young men had been arrested in the past on weapons and drug trafficking charges. They will be held in pre-trial detention for up to 30 days.

Authorities are searching for a third suspect.

'There is still an individual who is on the run,' police chief Douglas Moto said. 'We are still working incessantly to be able to locate this individual and as soon as possible make the arrest and then, leave them at the disposal of the justice.'

The suspects broke into her home March 28 and assaulted her husband, who managed to escape.

They were then able to remove her from the residence and took her to the cemetery and stuffed her inside the tomb.

The woman noticed she was trapped in the tomb after she had regained consciousness.

The cemetery workers heard her weak cries for help and immediately called the police before an emergency rescue team pulled her out of the burial site.

The woman suffered a head injury and is at risk of losing one of her fingers, João Batista Hospital director Henrique Slaid told Brazilian news outlet G1.

'The possibility of vascular surgery is being evaluated and perhaps amputation,' said Slaid, while adding that the victim is in intensive care and improving but that she may undergo vascular surgery.
