Lower House chooses 2nd deputy speaker, assistants

Ammon News - Lawmaker Nassar Heisa was elected on Monday second deputy speaker of the Lower House.

He secured 58 votes against his only contender Zaid Atoum, who had 56 votes, a day after the opening of parliament's ordinary session by His Majesty King Abdullah, which saw the election of a new speaker, Ahmad Safadi, and first deputy speaker, Ahmad Khalayleh.

In today's session, chaired by Safadi and attended by cabinet ministers, lawmakers also elected deputies Diyab Masa'id and Wael Razouq as assistants to the speaker, while the House left it to the Permanent Office to choose the committee that will draft the response to the Speech from the Throne.

The session was adjourned until next week.
