Ammon News - Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health, in charge of the Kingdom’s Covid-19 file, Dr.Adel Al-Balbisi, confirmed, on Saturday, that Jordan purchased 10 days ago supplies for rapid examination to investigate cholera.

Balbisi said that the aim of bringing supplies for a quick examination to investigate cholera is to reduce the time for the results of the examination to appear compared to the traditional examination.

The normal examination for cholera requires a transplant of 48-72 hours, but rapid examinations can detect cases within 10-15 minutes, he added.

He stressed that it is important to monitor and discover cases to take preventive measures, as Jordan has not recorded any case of cholera since 1981, and since that has taken a policy to examine 10-15% of cases of diarrhea, and routinely to investigate a number of germs, including the cholera germ in Jordan.

And he continued, that the preventive and precautionary measures include all those coming from Syria and Lebanon, or before that there were many Arab countries that had cholera and the same procedures were applied, and now anyone coming from Syria or Lebanon prevents the entry of any food accompanied by the traveler, only canned food is allowed.

With regard to trade, he said, there is control over foodstuffs that are imported from Syria and Lebanon, in addition to procedures and examinations carried out by the Food and Drug Administration to investigate any germs among foodstuffs, and so far, all samples are intact and no case of cholera has occurred in Jordan.

Balbisi indicated that cholera is not a new disease, but rather has been known since ancient times, and now we are talking about the seventh wave of the global epidemic "cholera", which began in the past century or before, while the most cholera cases in the world occur in places of war or problems between society and these areas where the health system is weak.
