Ammon News - The coordinator of noncommunicable diseases in the office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Amman, Dr. Hala Boukerdenna , provided her advice to reduce the number of smokers in Jordan.
Boukerdenna called for raising the prices of tobacco products, including the prices of smoke, according to the recommendation of the study "Justifications for the investment necessary to implement the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control", which was carried out by the Jordanian Ministry of Health in cooperation with the WHO and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) during 2019, during the dialogue sessions of the global initiative on the role of the media in raising health awareness.
She pointed to the need to activate the Public Health Law, which aims to prevent smoking in public places.
In a related context, Boukerdenna indicated that it was approved to conduct a study on the prevalence of smoking for the age group (13-15) years, in cooperation with the Ministries of Health and Education, and the results of the study are expected to be announced in June 2022.
She indicated that the organization will also work on conducting another study related to non-communicable diseases.
It is reported that Jordan is the world's first in the prevalence of smoking among males.
