Ammon News - The city of Aqaba is witnessing an active movement of visitors from different countries of the world, which is expected to increase in activity, especially with the expected arrival of 34 cruise ships during the current winter season, carrying more than 45,000 tourists, mostly from European countries.
The Commissioner for Tourism and Environment at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Dr. Nidal Majali, said in a press statement on Sunday, that the Golden Triangle: Aqaba, Petra, and Wadi Rum, enhances 14% of tourism income in Jordan.
The number of visitors is constantly increasing, as about 1.3 million visitors entered Aqaba during the current tourist season from various border crossings, and about 700,000 hotel entries were recorded with an average stay of 2.2 days, indicating that these numbers are rising continuously, after the increase in the number of ship trips. Tourist, low-cost flights to Aqaba, according to Majali.
He expected that the number of visitors to Aqaba this year and the coming years will exceed the number recorded in 2019, especially that Aqaba hotels recorded a high rate of reservations, nearly 90%.
And he indicated also that Aqaba was not among the cities that were completely affected by Corona pandemic, as visits to it did not stop during the pandemic period, as it was one of the green cities that was able to control the epidemic by applying the highest standards of public safety at the time.
He pointed out that Aqaba contains a diversity of marine life, and includes the largest coral reef in the northern hemisphere, and this is an attraction for tourists from different countries of the world.
Regarding what is offered to the Jordanian tourist, Majali said that it is supply and demand that determines the competition prices for hotel rooms and apartments in Aqaba, pointing to the need to establish new hotel rooms in Aqaba to encourage the establishment of many conferences, exhibitions and tourism programs.
He pointed out that tourism and travel agents in the world need to have a large number of rooms suitable for visitors, in addition to the diversity of price opportunities to accommodate the large demand for it.
Majali stressed that there is a diversity in providing service from hotels in Aqaba and hotel apartments, and all options are available for local tourism at prices that suit everyone, pointing out that Arab tourism has increased at high rates, as about 240 thousand Arab visitors entered Aqaba, which means that the city is witnessing a large turnout of visitors, whether local Or foreigners looking for the warmth of the sun and accommodation with high-level tourist services.
