Health: Launches National Nutrition Strategy for 2023-2030

Ammon News - The National Nutrition Strategy confirms the commitment of the government and other concerned parties to laying the foundations for achieving better levels of nutrition for all segments of society in line with the royal vision related to the necessity of achieving economic and social development goals, Minister of Health, Firas Al-Hawari, said on Sunday.
This came when the Ministry of Health launched the strategy and its executive framework for (2023-2030) in cooperation with the WHO.
In his speech to the attendees, Al-Hawari stressed that the strategy will constitute a roadmap to guide government efforts and the efforts of the relevant partners to improve nutrition for all segments of society to prevent malnutrition, overweight and obesity, micronutrient deficiencies and diet-related noncommunicable diseases, and to strengthen diets.
As for women of childbearing age, the study indicated an improvement in the rate of anemia and the absence of a health problem for vitamin A deficiency, while the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency reached 63%, folic acid deficiency is 11%, and vitamin B12 is about 19. The study indicated that the rate of overweight and obesity increased to a total of 59%, and that there was no health problem with being underweight, as its prevalence was less than 2%.
"Proper nutrition is essential to human health and a basic right and changes in diets accompanying lifestyle changes in all countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region have led to the spread of unhealthy dietary patterns that have resulted in an increase in levels of Obesity, diet-related noncommunicable diseases, low levels of lactation and micronutrient deficiencies, according to the representative of the WHO in Jordan Dr Jamela Al-Raiby.
The Head of the Nutrition Department at the Ministry of Health, Rawhieh Barham, reviewed the multiple axes of the strategy, which was developed based on scientific studies that dealt with the current nutritional situation in Jordan and guided by the regional and global goals of nutrition.
The launch ceremony of the strategy was followed by a dialogue session between the concerned partners to coordinate the efforts that will be made in order to achieve the vision and objectives of the strategy and the executive framework effectively and within the established time frame.
