Ammon News - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Wednesday welcomed Australian government’s move to rescind its previous decision to recognize West Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and halt plans to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
This decision reflects Australia's adherence to its position on deeming Jerusalem as a final solution issue, which is resolved in the context of peace negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis, the ministry's official spokesperson, Sinan Majali, said.
Majali valued Australia's affirmation to support the two-state solution and its commitment to back international efforts aimed at reaching a two-state settlement and stop support to any proposal that contradicts or undermines this policy.
Hailing Australia's "positive" stance, which is in line with international law, he added that the Kingdom highly values Canberra's new decision.
This stance, he said, is consistent with efforts aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace for the Middle East conflict.
The ministry stressed that there is no alternative to the two-state solution that embodies the independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, to live in peace and security alongside Israel as a way to achieve a just and lasting peace.
