Ammon News - The State Security Court Monday handed down 15-year jail terms with hard labor and a fine of JD10,000 each against two drug traffickers who were convicted of smuggling 16 kilograms of crystal meth from Syria.

In its verdict, which was issued during a public session, the court ordered the confiscation of the sum of JD10,800 in their possession and the vehicle they used.

The court found that the convicts had smuggled the narcotics in a gas cylinder as part of the vehicle's cargo from Syria.

Public Security personnel tracked the vehicle, discovered the contraband and arrested the traffickers as one of them received the quantity and hand-delivered the driver JD10,800, according to the findings.

The driver refused an order to stop and rammed the vehicle into two military vehicles of the Anti-Narcotics Department as he tried to flee, but security forces overpowered him and seized the drugs, the court said.
