Makesy Founder Saeed Omar briefed Queen Rania about the inspiration behind the app, which launched in 2021, and noted that the startup aims to reduce people’s reliance on fast fashion and allow clients to customise their orders by proposing designs that are executed by skilled local tailors. Omar said the startup has managed to secure job opportunities for 45 women certified by Bayt Al Khayt academy, an artisanal educational project established in 2010 to support local artisans by building their skills and improving their living standards. The academy offers diploma programmes in seven different areas, including sewing, designing, crocheting and embroidery.
