Senate president urges larger S. Korean investments in Jordan

Ammon News - Senate President Faisal Fayez called on Korean businesspeople to invest in the Kingdom, which provides a "fertile" investment environment in many fields and sectors, especially religious tourism, public transport, energy production, and mining industries.

Speaking at a meeting on Sunday, with a South Korean parliamentary delegation, headed by member of the National Assembly, Lee Won-wook, Fayez said discussions would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations in various fields, especially parliamentary, economic and political domains, expressing pride in the "high" level of by the bilateral relations.

Fayez said Jordan, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, is "constantly keen" on developing bilateral relations, increasing cooperation level and creating more joint partnerships.

Fayez noted His Majesty's multiple visits to South Korea indicate the "deep-rooted, strategic" relations between the two countries.

Jordan, with its geographical location, constitutes a gateway and a platform for business to the region's countries, especially as the Kingdom embraces many development and industrial zones, which constitutes an incentive for S. Korean investors to launch projects in Jordan, he pointed out.

Economically, he noted Jordan was the hardest-hit country by the region's current situation, adding that the Kingdom has overcome various challenges.
In this regard, he said Jordan's various current economic challenges require creating more bilateral partnerships.

In addition, Fayez highlighted the importance of increasing volume of Jordan's exports to South Korea, as well as working to hike the number of Korean tourists to the Kingdom, especially with regard to religious tourism, as well as enhancing the level of economic cooperation, especially in the energy fields.

For his part, the Korean parliamentarian Won-wook said Jordanian-S. Korean diplomatic relations began in 1962, and the two friendly countries are celebrating the 60th anniversary of their launch in 2022.

Won-wook expressed his country's keenness to expand the joint cooperation horizons, especially enhancing the S. Korean-Jordanian parliaments' ties.

He referred to his country's "remarkable" interest in strengthening cooperation with Jordan, especially in the energy and religious tourism fields.

In this regard, he said his country's companies have succeeded in developing a small-scale nuclear reactor, which suits the Kingdom's size and would serve and benefit Jordan "significantly."

South Korea's Ambassador to Jordan, Lee Jae-wan, highlighted his country's "remarkable" interest in investing in the Kingdom's opportunities, especially in the energy and transport fields.

Meanwhile, the Senate's heads of the permanent committees highlighted the importance of expanding bilateral ties to cover various fields and sectors, by benefiting from the successful S. Korean expertise and Jordan's "fertile" investment environment.

The S. Korean delegation includes parliamentary members, head of Center for Korean Nuclear Reactor Studies and Research, government nuclear energy experts, as well as energy companies representatives.
