Minister of Health Firas Hawwari underlined Jordan's support for developing the global strategy for infection prevention and control, through which the World Health Organization (WHO) supports member states in implementing the necessary interventions to control infection, especially training health personnel and developing monitoring systems and follow-up and evaluation systems.

Hawwari gave his remarks to a specialized symposium on "infection prevention and control" in health institutions, organized by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) within the agenda of the 75th session of the World Health Assembly, with the participation of the Omani Minister of Health and representatives from Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.

Hawwari said that Jordan has made great efforts to establish an infection prevention and control program in its hospitals since the eighties of the last century. "Efforts are ongoing to develop and improve performance in this field," he added.

He noted that the Health Ministry has recently updated guidelines for this program, to facilitate the work of teams specialized in controlling infection in major hospitals, indicating that the Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC) in the Kingdom uses indicators of infection control in hospitals within the conditions of accreditation.

He pointed out that Jordan has established a national center to combat epidemics and communicable diseases. He explained that its establishment will constitute a qualitative addition to controlling infection in health institutions and controlling microbial resistance to antibiotics.

Oman has submitted a project to support the decision to develop the global strategy for infection prevention and control within the agenda of the association, and Jordan took the initiative to support the decision issued by the Assembly in this regard, along with a number of countries in the region and the world.
