Jordan's Covid-19 cases went down by 36%, deaths by 43% within a week-Balbisi

Adviser to the Prime Minister for Health Affairs, responsible for the coronavirus file, Dr. Adel Balbisi, said the 15th epidemiological week of 2022, which runs from April 9 to 15, saw 475 Covid-19 cases, compared to 741 infections a week earlier, a drop of about 36%.

In press remarks to "Petra" on Sunday, he noted 4 Covid-19 fatalities were recorded, compared to 7 deaths during the 14th epidemiological week, a 43% drop.


The number of "PCR" tests conducted during the 15th week amounted to 23,451, compared to 25,469 tests during the previous week, with a 8% decrease, he pointed out.


Meanwhile, the number of cases currently receiving treatment in the Kingdom's hospitals reached 53, compared to 74 during the previous week, , with a 28% drop, he said.


In addition, Balbisi noted percentage of positive tests also went down to 2%, compared to 2.9% during the 14th epidemiological week, with a 30% drop.


The number of Jordan's active cases reached 332, compared to 493 infects during the 14th week, a 33% decrease, he pointed out.


Regarding the infection rate in the 10-17 age group, he noted percentage amounted to 11%, compared to 11% during the previous week which hit a total of 6 cases, adding that percentage in 6-9 age group reached 1%, compared to 2% over the previous week.


Regarding the anti-Covid-19 vaccine doses, he noted number of first jab recipients during the 15th week reached 4,503, compared to 9,884 during the previous week, while the second doses given hit 6, 253 compared to 7,596, he noted.


In this regard, the third doses administered during the same week stood at 3,753 compared to 3009, and the total amounted to 14,509, compared to 15639 during the 14th week, a 7% drop, he pointed out.


A total of 4,750,148, were administered during the 15th week, constituting a 74% of the target group of 18 years and over, while the overall second doses reached 4,469,823, marking a 70% of the same target category, and the tally of the third doses reached 641, 508, he said.


Regarding vaccination in the 12-17 age group, he said the number of first dose recipients was 222,531, at a 25% rate, and double-jabbed people for the same category hit 180,415, at a 20% rate, while vaccination in the 5-11 age group with a first dose hit 187 and 114 others were double jabbed.
