Senate's committee talk cooperation with Dutch envoy

Ammon News - The Senate's Jordanian-Dutch Friendship Committee, headed by Ihsan Barakat, on Wednesday, met Netherlands Ambassador to Jordan, Harry Verweij.

Barakat valued the two kingdom's relations, which would contribute to developing bilateral cooperation ties, especially in the economic and investment fields, and strengthening partnership with the European Union, especially as Netherlands is an EU founding member states.

Barakat noted the importance of the Netherlands' position on the Palestinian cause, in support of the two-state solution, which His Majesty King Abdullah II emphasizes in all his forums as the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

In addition, Barakat stressed the need to benefit from Team Europe's support for Jordan's efforts to provide more water to Jordanians using green energy and reduce climate change effects, by working to complete the National Carrier Project for Water Desalination and Transport, in addition to providing support for "pioneering" enterprises in the agricultural sector.


Barakat also stressed the need to supporting women's participation in the agricultural sector to be the starting point for the committee's work, to achieve His Majesty King Abdullah II's vision in political and economic reform and strengthening the women's role.


For his part, the envoy lauded His Majesty's role in strengthening partnership and consolidating common understanding between the two countries, especially with regard to the region's current situation.

The diplomat also stressed his country's support for His Majesty's position in support of the two-state solution as the only way to achieve a comprehensive and just peace.

The Dutch diplomat lauded Jordan's "distinguished" role in hosting refugees and providing them with all services, especially housing, health and education.

The envoy presented the key projects that receives his country's interest, including assistance to support women and their engagement in various economic sectors, and continued effort to work on the agricultural sector by increasing job opportunities for women.

In this regard, Verweij stressed Jordan's support in the water field by offering a grant for the National Carrier Project, and energy-related schemes.

In turn, the committee's members praised the Netherlands' "vital" partnership in supporting refugees and host communities in the Kingdom, as Jordan is the second largest refugee-hosting country , in proportion to the population, stressing the need to keep the refugee issue at the forefront of global issues under discussion.
