The Minister of State for Media Affairs and official spokesperson for the government, Faisal Al-Shboul on Monday said that the government is in the process of amending a number of defense orders in order to ease COVID-19 restrictions as the month of Ramadan approaches.

The amendment of defense orders comes based on the recommendations of the National Committee for Epidemics, during its meeting held Sunday, March, 20, Al-Shboul stated in press statements.

The amendments include canceling social distancing in mosques and places of worship with the obligation to wear face masks and canceling the requirement of face masks outdoors in places with Green Sanad app while maintaining the need for face masks indoors, Al-Shboul added.

Additionally, limiting the capacity of indoor and outdoor gatherings is no longer required, especially wedding halls and restaurants, including the abolition of the requirement to limit the number of people sitting at the same table in restaurants, as well as allowing Ramadan tents and tables to operate at normal capacity, Al-Shboul said.

The minister also announced the launch of the "Ramadaniyat" campaign, which is being carried out by the ministries of youth, tourism and antiquities, culture, social development and the interior. It involves holding sports, cultural, tourism and social activities during the holy month of Ramadan in all governorates of the Kingdom.

The "Ramadaniyat" campaign comes to revive the usual Ramadan rituals in society, spread positive spirit, and an atmosphere of joy and entertainment among young people, children, families and all age groups, after its absence for two years due to the restrictive measures imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, as it includes various events and activities organized by the ministries of culture and development, social, tourism and youth.
