Head of National Committee for International Humanitarian Law meets Qatari delegation

Ammon News - Chairman of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law retired Lt. Gen. Mamoun Khasawneh on Sunday met with Chairman of the Qatari National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, Sultan bin Abdullah Al-Suwaidi, and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting covered ways to enhance cooperation between the two committees, and challenges facing the dissemination of international humanitarian law and the application of its rules locally, regionally and internationally.

Khasawneh briefed the delegation on the establishment of the committee, its vision, mission, strategic objectives, law, organizational structure, charters and agreements ratified by the Jordanian government, and its achievements.

He said that the committee works through three main themes, the first relates to legal advice and opinion on issues of international humanitarian law, the second relates to legislative alignment between Jordanian and international legislation, and the third relates to activities and events to disseminate the rules of law at the national level.

Khasawneh revealed a strategic plan for the committee that includes workshops and various activities targeting the public sector and civil society institutions, indicating that the plan pays special attention to the youth and education sector.

For his part, the head of the Qatari delegation lauded the Jordanian-Qatari ties, calling for activating and enhancing the memorandum of understanding concluded between the two sides by organizing symposia discussing themes of international humanitarian law and exchanging publications, pamphlets and experiences between the two committees.

In turn, Khaled Al-Obaidi, a member of the Qatari Committee, briefed the meeting on the establishment of the Qatari Committee and its key activities and events.
