Under His Majesty King Abdullah's directives, Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi Saturday unveiled a new package of development projects in the Northern Badia in the Mafraq Governorate as part of the royal initiatives, and inaugurated projects in Al-Ruweished District.

The projects include building 100 homes for underprivileged families, establishment of a garment factory within the "productive branches" initiative, which will create 200-400 job opportunities for members of the local community, in addition to productive projects through cooperatives in the northern region.

Issawi, head of the committee to follow up on the implementation of the royal initiatives, told a meeting with dignitaries and youth and women activists in the region that the new projects will be carried out according to a timeframe and in cooperation with the relevant government agencies and partners.

He said that the meetings with local communities came upon the directives of His Majesty, "who is aware of the challenges facing the people of the region, and who always underscores the need to reach out and listen to their demands and work to meet their needs."

Issawi pointed out that the northern Badia, under the royal directives, will see development projects in the various fields, foremost of which is agriculture, pending the needs and priorities of each region.

Despite the challenges facing the economy, he said, improving the living conditions and services is a top priority of His Majesty, who constantly urges work to achieve that goal, protect the poor and strengthen institutional work tools to care for the needy and support entrepreneurship, creativity and small and medium enterprises.

For their part, the local leaders commended the King's efforts to enhance the economic reality of local communities and his ongoing directives to launch projects to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.

Their demands focused on finding solutions to the problems of poverty and unemployment in their region, support farmers, agricultural projects and employment programs through productive and job-generating projects, improve health, educational, cultural and infrastructure services, support charities and sports clubs, attract investments to the region and more attention to the livestock sector.

Accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Al-Kasbi and Mafraq Governor Salman Najada, Issawi handed over to 20 impoverished families the keys to their new homes and opened a public park in the Manshiyet Al-Ghayath in Ruweished District, which were implemented under the royal initiatives with United Arab Emirates funding. He also checked on the progress of work on the new Al Ruweished Hospital.
