FM holds meetings with Arab counterparts in Cairo

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Wednesday held a set of bilateral and trilateral meetings with his Arab counterparts, on the sidelines of the 157th regular session of the Arab League at the ministerial level in Cairo.

Safadi met with the foreign ministers of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Morocco, Nasser Bourita, Iraq, Fouad Hussein, Lebanon, Abdallah Bou Habib, and Somalia, Abdi-Said Moussa Ali, in addition to the Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), Robert Floyd.

Meetings covered bilateral ties between the Kingdom and the Arab countries in various fields, and highlighted latest regional and international developments, and efforts to resolve crises in the region.

Meetings also discussed mechanisms for activating the cooperation and joint Arab action ecosystem to serve common Arab interests, and meet Arab peoples aspirations for development, stability and prosperity.

In addition, Safadi and his Egyptian counterparts Sameh Shoukry and Palestinian, Riyad Al-Malki held a trilateral meeting to follow up on outcomes of the Jordanian-Egyptian-Palestinian summit that was held in September 2021 to crystallize a vision to activate efforts aimed at resuming negotiations, working with partners to revive the peace process, and maintaining coordination and consultation, as well as discussing latest developments related to the Palestinian issue.

The three ministers stressed the centrality of the Palestinian issue, and the need to intensify efforts at the regional and international levels to find a real political horizon that would re-launch serious and effective negotiations on the basis of the two-state solution.

Also, Safadi held a trilateral meeting with his Egyptian and Iraqi counterparts within the framework of the trilateral cooperation mechanism between the three countries, and consolidating progress in implementing outcomes of the summit, which was held at the level of leaders in Baghdad in June 2021.
