Media state minister Faisal Shboul Wednesday said the government will organise a range of cultural, tourism, social and sports activities during Ramadan and the spring.

Shboul told a press conference in Amman that Jordan is organising many high-profile activities and events in the near future, not the least of which are municipality elections, the month of Ramadan, Easter and a "promising" spring season, as he said this ushers normalcy following the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said Ramadan will witness many activities and events as the country continues to open up and go back to normalcy in light of the waning of the COVID-19 fourth wave.

He said the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply is overseeing the market and monitoring the international surge in prices due to the Ukraine crisis, adding the Ministry has increased controls in the market to regulate the prices and put a cap on staple prices.

He highlighted that the Ministry would intervene in case there was a spike in the prices of staple commodities.

He said that Jordan is organising two major events that would lure in tourists from the region; the "Irbid as the Capital of Arab Culture 2022" and "Madaba as the Capital of Arab Tourism 2022," adding that the government has teamed up with the private sector to advertise for Jordan's activities through programmes and events that would take place in the upcoming period.

On the Ukraine crisis, Shboul said that Jordan's position was and still clear; urging the conflicting sides for "self-restraint and de-escalation." He said that Jordan has enough wheat that would last for 15 months, adding that the government has floated a tender to purchase wheat and staples.

He noted that the government is working to address the challenges facing print media, not the least of which is the financial problems.
