Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Wednesday chaired the 3rd meeting of the Arab ministerial committee tasked to take action to counter illegal Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem.
During the meeting, held prior to holding the 157th regular session of the Arab League at the level Ministerial in Cairo, Safadi reviewed the Kingdom's efforts and moves to mobilize international support to stop the "illegal and illegitimate" Israeli measures.
Those Israeli actions aim at changing the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of the occupied city of Jerusalem and its legal and historic status quo, in a way that undermines chances of the two-state solution and a comprehensive and just peace in the region, according to Safadi.
Safadi also referred to the efforts made to protect the residents' rights of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalemto stay in their homes, and provide all possible support to them, in a manner that preserves their rights.
Safadi touched on efforts aimed at creating a "true" political horizon that would allow a return to "serious and effective" negotiations to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.
With the two-state solution as the basis, an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the June 4, 1967 lines is established to live in peace and security alongside Israel, in accordance with the international law resolutions, international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, Safadi pointed out.
