Balbisi : COVID-19 cases, deaths continue downward trend

Coronavirus cases and deaths recorded in Jordan are continuing to drop in the ninth week of the fourth wave of the virus, which peaked three weeks ago, said Adel Balbisi, COVID-19 pointman and health adviser at the prime minister's office.

In a statement to Petra, Balbisi said that 39,979 coronavirus cases were recorded in the ninth epidemiological week (February 26 - March 6), a 34.5-percent decline from 60,940 cases recorded in the eighth epidemiological week, while the death toll was at 96 in the ninth week and at 156 in the eighth week, constituting a 38-percent drop.

After the government waived the COVID test requirement for travelers, the number of PCR tests went down by 36 percent going from 306,527 in the eighth epidemiological week to 196,406 in the ninth epidemiological week, Balbisi indicated.

On immunization, he stated that the number of people who got the first dose of the coronavirus vaccines the ninth epidemiological week stood at 17,161 and those who were double-jabbed was at 26,417, while a total of 32,945 received the booster dose. He urged citizens to receive the vaccine, calling it the "best way to address the pandemic."
