Ammon News - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates held a meeting on Saturday to follow up on the condition of the Jordanian community in Ukraine, where the Russian military campaign continued to escalate.

The meeting, which comprised the Deputy Director of the National Center for Security and Crisis Management, the Secretary-General of the Ministry and the Director of its Operations Administration, tackled an emergency plan that was set to deal with the crisis, and the efforts of diplomatic staff at the border posts between Ukraine and Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary.

These included the cases that have been dealt with so far and the services that have been provided to Jordanians who managed to reach the border crossings, including consular and travel documents and buses and accommodation.

Today's meeting also dealt with difficulties facing Jordanians trying to reach the borders, where Ukrainian laws apply to holders of the dual Jordanian and Ukrainian nationality concerning allowing them to leave the country, as reported by Jordanians residing there.

It also discussed the plight of people waiting in long lines for hours at border crossings, which extended for kilometres in some locations, as well as reports that authorities were giving priority to Ukrainian citizens.

The Foreign Ministry has contacted Ukrainian authorities through diplomatic channels on the issue of holders of the dual nationality and to urge them to secure safe corridors for Jordanians to leave the country and be safe on roads.

About 50 Jordanians have crossed into Romania, Poland, Slovakia and Moldova since the Russian military campaign began in Ukraine.

The ministry's crisis cell, the Jordanian embassy in Ankara and the representatives of embassies at the Ukraine borders have contacted Jordanians, urging them to take maximum precautions, heed instructions from local authorities and not take any actions that could threaten their lives.
