Jordan sees 67.6pct of annual rainfall average, dams 28pct full

Ammon News - The Kingdom's 14 main dams now hold 28.3 per cent, or 79 million cubic meters (mcm), of their total storage capacity of 336 mcm, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation said on Saturday.

Also, 65.2 per cent, or 5.343 billion cubic meters, of the Kingdom's long-term rainfall average of 8.1 billion cubic meters has been realized since the start of the 2021-2022 wet season.

Despite historically scarce precipitation, the southern Red Sea port of Aqaba has seen its annual average at 183.8 per cent since the beginning of the season.

In its regional breakdown of annual rainfall average performance, the ministry said that the Al-Balqa governorate has received 87.8 per cent of its long-term average, followed by Amman (81), Irbid (79.9), Ajloun (72.9), Ma'an (61), Madaba (58.5), Karak (53.1), Mafraq (45.6), Jerash (44.3), Tafileh (38.2), and Shoubak (36.8).
