Ammon News - Over 1,100 foreign tourists visited the ancient city of Petra on Wednesday, the highest number since the beginning of 2022, according to the statistics of Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA).
in a statement Wednesday, PDTRA said this visitor figure coincides with the near implementation of government measures to ease Covid-19 pandemic-related restrictions, which indicates a start to recovery of the city's tourist movement.
PDTRA Chairman, Suleiman Farajat, said this increase revives hopes for restoring Petra's tourist momentum and its tourist establishments, which have suffered "remarkably" during the past two years from the Covid-19 pandemic-conduced repercussions.
During the current period, he said some tourist hotels have reached a high occupancy rate, expressing hope that this increase in the visitor number will continue, which would "positively" affect local communities and Petra region's establishments and the national economy.
Reiterating PDTRA's keenness to provide the best visitor services, he noted its plans aim to expand the site's promotion, in line with Petra's tourist status, as a global heritage site and one of the 7 New Wonders of the World.
