$5.8-million agreement signed to rehabilitate Ain Al-Basha water network

Ammon News - The Ministry of Water and Irrigation has signed a agreement worth $5.8 million to rehabilitate the water networks of Ain Al-Basha district in Al-Balqa governorate, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

In a statement on Wednesday, Minister of Water Mohammed Najjar said that under the agreement, main and subsidiary water lines will be assembled, and new reservoirs will be constructed in Ain Al-Basha district, pointing to the ministry’s ongoing efforts to increase the Kingdom's water supply, improve distribution efficiency, and reduce waste and energy costs.

"The ministry’s plans will be positively and effectively reflected on raising the efficiency of water supply, improving the management of water and sanitation services, and eventually improving the sustainable provision of water to citizens," he added.

The minister stressed the need to expedite the completion of water losses reduction projects, considering the Kingdom’s exceptional circumstances of water scarcity which burdens the various service sectors.

Secretary General of the Water Authority of Jordan Bashar Bataineh said that the 18-months rehabilitation project includes installing modern household connections, pressure management systems, pressure reducing switches, meters, and measuring devices, in addition to adopting the SCADA monitoring and control system to remotely observe the process of water supply.
