FM meets counterparts, officials at MSC

Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, held Saturday meetings with delegation heads, foreign ministers and officials participating in the Munich Security Conference (MSC).

The meetings focused on discussing ways to enhance bilateral ties, and measures and programs being implemented to expand cooperation in various fields to serve common interests.

Safadi and those officials discussed regional developments, including the Palestinian issue, and efforts to resolve crises to achieve security and stability in the region.

The meetings dealt with efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, the situation in Yemen, support Iraq and Lebanon, refugee issues, efforts to combat terrorism, and issues of common interest.

Safadi's meetings included those held with his counterparts, Iraq's Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, Austria's Foreign Minister, Alexander Schallenberg, Ireland's Foreign and Defense Minister Simon Coveney, Slovenia's Foreign Minister, Anze Logar, North Macedonia's Foreign Minister, Bujar Osmani, and Latvia's Foreign Minister, Edgars Rinkevics.

Safadi also held meetings with US officials, including the US President's Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry, Senator Chris Coons, Chairman of the Democratic Caucus at the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee at the Senate, and Senator Lindsey Graham, Chairman of the Republican Caucus in the Subcommittee.

Safadi also met with President of Kurdistan Region-Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, Germany 's Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, Niels Annen, and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo.

In a separate meeting, Safadi met with Michael Punke, Vice President for Global Public Policy at Amazon.

In addition, the foreign minister partook in a dialogue session, at the MSC, on developments in the Middle East, in which the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, participated.

Safadi highlighted efforts to resolve regional crises, stressing that peace and stability in the region cannot be achieved without solving the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution.

He touched on efforts to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis and address its impacts, the issue of refugees, and efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis.

Safadi also spoke about economic and political reforms that the kingdom is undertaking.
