Ontario schools to close amidst increase in COVID infections

Ammon News - Schools in Ontario, Canada, will be effectively closed as of Wednesday through January 17, as the authorities strive to stem the spread of COVID-19 cases.

Premier of Ontario Doug Ford said the new measures will also include the temporary closure of restaurants and gymnasiums, as well as putting a cap on gatherings of five persons indoors and 10 outdoors.

He warned that the number of infections is subject to increase because of the new Omicron variant, adding that the daily infections could exceed 100,0000.

A total of 13,580 Canadians tested positive for the highly contagious respiratory disease in the last 24 hours, as the caseload tops 805,100. The death toll in the province stands at 1,026.
